Conceptos Efectivos SRL de CV is a company based in Merida, Mexico, that specializes in providing purified drinking water services for businesses, schools and other organizations. The company is a micro-organization of some 5 persons.

Their systems replace bottled water and so help reducing negative impact to the environment of bottled water by reducing oil used in the manufacture of plastic bottles, CO2 emissions from the transportation of bottles, reduces landfill waste caused by plastic bottles and reduces CO2 emissions caused because our water purifying systems use much less energy than old bottled water-coolers.

Conceptos Efectivos is a proud member of the local community and has an active social responsibility program. We have used ISO 26000 as guidance to integrate social responsibility into our values and practices. For further information and the exemplary details on their

Good NEC CSR Digest 2011, cover (web-small)example: NEC prefers stakeholder dialogue, not certification

NEC presents a very good example on how to use the guidance standard ISO 26000. The document is titled “NEC Corporation CSR DIGEST 2011”  and downloadable from http://www.nec.co.jp/csr/en/report/pdf/CSR-all2011.pdf  (2011-09-06).

NEC puts emphasis on a sound stakeholder dialogue and its adequate documentation. The last few pages of this report are titled  “Stakeholder review based on ISO 26000”, are a very valuable reading and can be downloaded here.

It seems important to note that NEC as a well reputed company did not ask for any kind of certification. The stakeholder review seems to be a much better and more informative way

Good example: The Indian NCRCL Ltd. (NCR Consultants Ltd.) assist ISO 26000 We abide by ISO 26000users in self-certification

Well respecting that there is no third-party certification on ISO 26000, NCRCL is an Indian consultancy company that offers assistance in applying the recommendations contained in ISO 26000. They call this process “self-certification” and the result may be a “self-declaration” as exemplified by NCRCL themselves on their website.

This practice is well in line with the ISO recommendations, see question 9 at http://isotc.iso.org/livelink/livelink/fetch/2000/2122/830949/3934883/3935096/07_gen_info/faq.html, just in a shorter wording. The nicely designed picture "We abide by ISO 26000 social responsibility" is nothing but such a self-declaration.

Die Sonnen- Apotheke ist laut der ISO 26000 Definition eine Mikro-Organisation. Die Nützlichkeit der ISO 26000 Empfehlungen wurde in einem Interview mit der Eigentümerin im Einzelnen geprüft. Ergebnis:

  • Der Kernbereich Organisationsführung wurde in Anbetracht der  Organisationsgröße als nicht relevant angesehen
  • Der Kernbereich Menschenrechte wird als nicht relevant angesehen, weil sie in der Verfassung und deutschen Gesetzen vollständig abgedeckt sind und diese auch eingehalten werden
  • mit dem 26k-Handlungsfelder- Werkzeugs konnte konsequent ermittelt werden, dass diese Mikro-Organisation zu keinem der angebotenen Handlungsfelder eine größere Hebelwirkung haben kann
  • die Mikro-Organisation wird sich auch weiterhin auf ihre Art gesellschaftlich verantwortlich verhalten und vernünftig machbare Beiträge zur gesellschaftlichen Entwicklung leisten.

Das Ergebnis wurde in dem 26k-Handlungsfelder-Werkzeug selbst und in einer Bewertungsaussage festgehalten, die im Grundsatz für Tausende anderer Apotheken  in Deutschland sehr ähnlich lauten dürfte. Mit freundlicher Genehmigung der Eigentümerin werden folgende Unterlagen zur allgemeinen Verwendung veröffentlicht:

English: The pharmacy is, according to the ISO 26000 definition, a micro-organisation. In an interview with the owner the usefulness of the ISO 26000 recommendations was checked in every detail. Results:

    • In view of the organization’s size, the core subject organizational governance was not deemed relevant, given the size of the pharmacy
    • The core subject Human Rights is not considered relevant because in Germany they are completely covered by the constitution and related law, where German citizens adhere to
    • Using the 26k-Issue-Tool it could be consequently found out that this micro-organisation cannot unfold a real leverage on the offered ISO 26000 issues
    • The micro-organisation will continue its way of social responsibility and provide contributions to the development of society as felt reasonable.

The result has been documented in the 26k-Issue-Tool and in form of an evaluation statement which basically could read similar for thousands of other German pharmacies. By friendly permission of the owner the following documents are published, free for general use:

Good example: Nippon Keidanren includes ISO 26000 recommendations into its Charter and Implementation Guidance
Keidanren is the important Japanese Business Federation. Their use of ISO 26000 is as easy as brilliant. The slide shows how -- in principle -- the contenCharter-implguide&ISO26000 rev3t of ISO 26000, as far as relevant to Keidanren members , finds its way into the charter and implementation guide, with the effect that users of the charter and implementation guide inherently make use of ISO 26000.

The Keidanren Charter and the Implementation Guide can be downloaded for free from

These documents may be used by other organizations than Keidanren members in the same way.

This Keidanren example can be considered a perfectbenchmark.
